No, it’s not what you think. F is for fluoride and it is in our water and we should have a choice. There has been a movement to take it out our water system. Many Colorado cities have taken it out including Pagosa Springs, Telluride, Colorado Springs, Snowmass and Montrose. We can take it out of our water supply in Durango too with your help in signing this petition.

Many of you share the same beliefs that I do, that fluoride should not be in our water system. In fact, the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology in several preliminary determinations over the last 18 years concluded:
(IAOMT) “…flouride added to the public water supply, or prescribed as controlled-dose supplements, delivers no discernible health benefit, and causes a higher incidence of adverse health effects.” (details of study)
I recently have written to the editor of the Durango Herald regarding this subject. I was limited to 350 words so I had to be brief.
Since the City Council of Durango refused to hear our side of the story only listening to the pro-fluoride entities such as the San Juan Public Health Department and the State Public Health Department, a few of us have organized to petition for an ordinance to remove fluoride in our water system. If we get enough people signing the petitions, it will appear on the ballot in the general elections in April.
There are 36 petitioners signed up to help. The names and contact information are on the Clean Water Durango website. If you believe that we should have a choice whether we should place a known neurotoxin in our water system, please take the time to sign this petition so we can vote fluoride out of the water system. You have until January 8th to sign the petition. We need about 900 signers.
Note: You must be a resident within the Durango city limits to sign. If you sign the petition and are outside the city boundaries you will not be counted. Here is the website to see if you live within the city or not. It may take a minute to populate so be patient.
My thanks to Dr. Jim Forleo, Robert Lieb, and Dr. Dale Streitzel for their help in organizing this project.
The bottom line is we should have a choice whether you want a drug placed in our water system. Signing this petition does not mean you have to vote no to fluoride. You have time to make up your mind. Go to the Clean Water Durango website for more information.
Remember:
- Our bodies are not fluoride deficient. We do not need it in our bodies
- It is a known neurotoxin
- It is dose dependant as any drug. Young children, older adults and immune suppressed individuals are more susceptible
- Water fluoridation does not help to prevent tooth decay. It is dependant on the sugar in our diet and our genetics (there are 27 genes in our DNA that are attributable to dental decay)
- It affects our hormone receptors especially thyroid
- We as citizens should have the right of informed consent whether to put this in the water
- Chemicals are place in the water to make sure that it is drinkable. Fluoride is not one of those chemicals

Here is the letter I wrote to the Durango Herald:
Clean Water for Durango a Dentist’s Opinion
As a general dentist practicing 36 years, our profession has evolved in using clinical outcome studies. And as a researcher in the profession, I have seen thousands of patients, children and adults. These years of practice my clinical observations reveal that water fluoridation has no positive outcomes, despite what the government and the health departments state. Water fluoridation is not one of the 10 great public health achievements of the 20th century.
Our bodies do not have a fluoride deficiency. We do not need fluoride to save our teeth. What we do know is that fluoride is a known nerve toxin. It can negatively affect the brain, bones and hormones along with other organs and systems of our bodies. Fluoride is a drug and any drug is dose dependent. Human susceptibility to dosage of drugs is different for each individual depending on the state of their immune system, age and weight. Most drugs prescribed by health care practitioners keep this in mind when prescribing any type of medication. I would never prescribe the same amount of pain narcotics for a child weighing 60 pounds as I would a 260 pounder.
They say that fluoride at the levels in our water is so low that it would not affect anybody’s health. Let’s add on the fluoride in our foods, the pesticides, the anesthetics for surgery, and the coal burning residue. It is cumulative. The fluoride added to water is also contaminated with other heavy metals and is not regulated like the fluoride prescription drugs.
Cavities are caused by diet and genetics. The population eats too much sugar. Cut out eating sugar and we will decrease the acidity in the mouth, one of the main factors that causes decay. There are 27 genes in our DNA that attribute to dental decay, another major factor.
There are certain chemicals added to treat the water so it is drinkable. Fluoride is not one of them. You should have a choice. Check out Clean Water Durango for more info.
Stay tuned for more information!
